Press Release: Announcing the Kickstarter Launch Date for Underleague

Cogwright Games are excited to announce the launch date of the Kickstarter campaign for their new fantasy-themed card game, Underleague. The page will be going live on Thursday 4th May.

Enter the pits. Gamble, lie and cheat to find your fortune.

Underleague is a card game for 2-5 players. It takes about 45 minutes to play, with an additional 15 minutes for each player above 2. The game can be played straight out of the box using pre-built decks, but also includes rules for building your own decks and for drafting.

The smoke-filled city of Helgarten sits at the centre of a vast and wealthy empire, but holds a dark secret. Every day, beneath the thick canopy of pulleys and chains, the local degenerates breed monstrous creatures and assemble terrifying contraptions to enter into illegal underground pit fights, with huge amounts of money on the line. You are one of these breeders, and through hard work and unscrupulous tactics you hope to find your fortune.

Underleague is a combat-based card game – but unlike many games in this genre, it doesn’t require a ‘lifestyle’ commitment to enjoy. The rules can be learnt and taught quickly even by those with no experience playing card games, and the pre-built decks in the box provide a huge amount of replayability. Central to the game is a unique betting mechanic: as well as fighting your opponents’ creatures, you also have to predict which creatures will win and lose fights each round. This adds an additional layer of strategy to the game – you have to know when the smart play is to bet against yourself, and you need to think about how your bets will influence the other players’ decisions.

Underleague has been in development for nearly 4 years, and is the first game from Cogwright Games – an independent tabletop design studio in the UK. Fergus Blair, the game’s designer, is a management consultant by profession and lifelong fan of card games. The world of the game has been brought to life by the incredibly talented Mozchops, a concept artist, illustrator and cartoonist who has worked on properties including Warhammer and Heroes of Might & Magic.
